Reports to: Director, Sustainability and Environmental Protection

Airports Council International (ACI) is the only global trade representative of the world’s airports. Established in 1991, ACI represents airports interests with governments and international organizations such as ICAO, develops standards, policies, and recommended practices for airports, and provides information and training opportunities to raise standards around the world.

ACI is looking for an Assistant Manager, Sustainability, and the ideal candidate:

  • Has knowledge and experience of sustainability issues in air transport, in particular within airports
  • Possesses understanding of the international aviation framework and of sustainable development
  • Is able to successfully assist the Manager, Sustainability with the ACI World Environment Standing Committee (WEnSC) and related activities, including the Voluntary Airport Decarbonization Action Plans initiative
  • Is a strong communicator both verbally and in writing

The location: Reporting to the Director, Sustainability and Environmental Protection, the position is based in Montreal, the world’s international hub for organizations involved in aerospace and aviation.  It offers candidates a unique opportunity to work in a global environment for the delivery of analytical insights for the broader aviation community.

About this opportunity: The Assistant Manager, Sustainability, should have the ability to work on concurrent projects and tasks to advance the collective interests of airports on sustainability and promote excellence in airport sustainability management. The position requires a proactive and tactful professional, with excellent writing skills, who can comfortably work in a broad cultural environment. The candidate should be member-focused, detail-oriented, curious, and able to keep abreast of industry news, in order to contribute to the development of the air transport industry.

Main responsibilities:

Supporting the Manager, Sustainability and the Secretary of the ACI World Environment Standing Committee (WEnSC):

  • Preparing meeting and workshop (both virtual and in-person) documentation and arrangements
  • Preparing and sending bi-weekly updates to the WEnSC members and observers
  • Maintaining and coordinating committee action items throughout the year
  • Assist in coordinating work items with Committee members, Task Force members and ACI regions
  • Conducting surveys, analysing data and any other relevant technical material as necessary

Developing technical expertise on sustainability matters

  • Supporting ACI’s Voluntary Airport Decarbonization Action Plan initiative, and help airports convert the industry-wide long term carbon goal into practical, individualized roadmaps
  • Developing and maintaining a database of airports’ environmental protection activities
  • Providing reliable and timely input to member airports queries and requests for information
  • Supporting the team with research and position papers for technical meetings, consultations, industry events, and with the development of advocacy guidance material and other materials as needed
  • Responding to inquiries on the ACI Airport Carbon Emissions and Reporting Tool (ACERT) and ACI Aircraft Ground Energy System Simulator (AGES-S) tools

Other responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining members’ contact details in the organization’s CRM
  • Using the available IT tools (Intranet, Extranet, etc.) to ensure the team’s activities, projects and documents are organized and coordinated
  • Supporting ACI Global Training (GT) by coordinating the review of training materials
  • Supporting the Observer (and Adviser) to the ICAO Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) with the preparation of meeting documentation and coordination.
  • Other tasks as required

Technical knowledge, skills, and abilities


  • University degree in environmental management/science, sustainable development, air transport management, or a related discipline
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience in environmental affairs, preferably in airport or airline operations
  • Highly organized and able to work on multiple tasks with fixed deadlines and changing priorities
  • Strong analytical skills to generate insightful information to help develop ACI policies on sustainability
  • Pro-active, collegial, tactful, and diplomatic
  • Capable of working independently and in a team, in a multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite


  • Knowledge/experience in aviation sustainability initiatives and strategies, decarbonization, and other environmental impacts of climate change
  • Knowledge/experience in ESG and sustainability reporting frameworks
  • An understanding of international organizations and relations, politics, advocacy, and member interests
  • Knowledge of CRM Microsoft D365 and online community engagement tools
  • Working knowledge of another language, preferably French/Spanish
