ACI World congratulates new ICAO Secretary General Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar

Outgoing Secretary General Dr. Fang Liu thanked for her contribution

Montreal, 25 February, 2021 – Airports Council International (ACI) World today extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Juan Carlos Salazar of Colombia on his election as new Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Mr. Salazar has been elected at a crucial point in time for the industry as it continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. ACI World looks forward to strengthening an already long and fruitful relationship with Mr. Salazar and working together to lay the foundation for a sustained recovery of the aviation ecosystem.

ACI World also extends its sincere gratitude for the enormous contribution made by outgoing Secretary General Dr. Fang Liu of China.

“We offer our warmest congratulations to Juan Carlos Salazar on his election and look forward to working closely with him and his team as our two organizations continue our long-standing collaboration,” ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira said. “The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated that international cooperation and coordination, between governments and aviation industry groups, will be key to paving the road to recovery.

“It will be essential for us to continue to nurture our relationship and maintain the collaborative approach to ensure a safe, secure, and sustainable restart of the aviation sector so that it can be a key driver of the global economic recovery and deliver the social and economic benefits to the communities it serves.

“I would also like to thank Dr. Fang Liu for the enormous contribution she has made to our industry in the role of Secretary General since 2015. Dr. Liu has always offered her strong support to the airport industry and has been instrumental in driving many joint ACI-ICAO initiatives forward.”

Since moving to Montreal in 2011, ACI World has established a close working relationship with ICAO. Along with ICAO and industry partners, ACI is focused on continued efforts to build back better and prepare for the future.
