ACI World appoints Patrick Lucas as new Director, Economics

Lucas succeeds Stefano Baronci who becomes ACI Asia-Pacific Director General
Montreal, 30 October 2019 – Airports Council International (ACI) World has today announced that Patrick Lucas has been appointed Director, Economics.
Patrick Lucas is currently Head of the Airport Business Analytics Unit within the ACI Economics Department, having joined the organization in April 2011. He succeeds Stefano Baronci who has held the position of Director since April 2016 and will leave ACI World in December to become Director General of ACI Asia-Pacific.
An economist by profession, Lucas has 18 years of experience in analytical economics. He has overseen ACI World’s global airport data collection and has lead the authorship of major flagship publications, the World Airport Traffic Report, the World Airport Traffic Forecasts, and the Airport Economics Report.
“For more than eight years, Patrick has played an invaluable role at ACI World in the collection, analysis, and dissemination of airport traffic and economic data to inform our members and support data-driven policy-making in our industry,” ACI World Director General Angela Gittens said. “I look forward to him bringing to bear his intellectual leadership and indefatigable work ethic to serve our members and contribute to the knowledge base of regulators and decision-makers at global and national level.
“I also congratulate Stefano on his new role as Director General for ACI Asia-Pacific and I am glad that he will remain a member of our extended ACI family. We look forward to working closely with him in the future.”
Lucas said he was looking forward to stepping up into his new role.
“I am very grateful to have been given this opportunity to step into this challenging role at a very important time for our global membership,” he said. “With demand for air services spiralling upwards, it is decision time for airports around the world on investments, infrastructure, and capacity and our role in the economics team will be to continue to deliver data-driven insights that will help to underpin these decisions.
“I thank Angela and the senior management team at ACI World for the opportunity and I am especially grateful to Stefano for his leadership and support over the last three years.”
Prior to joining ACI, Lucas worked for a United Nations statistical office where he contributed to major global reports; he holds a bachelor’s degree from McGill University and a master’s degree in economics from Concordia University.
Lucas will begin his new role on 2 December 2019.
